CARHA Hockey is delighted to host the 2012 edition of the CARHA Hockey World Cup in Sault Ste. Marie, ON in March 2012.

  • The CARHA Hockey World Cup was conceived in the mid 1990’s as an opportunity through which adult recreational hockey players (19 to 70 years of age) could participate in the experience of a tournament with international flair
  • With 13 cities applying, Sault Ste. Marie was awarded Host City status through an extensive bid review process and on-site presentations (shortlisted cities were Toronto, Huntsville/Muskoka)
  • The CARHA Hockey World Cup is based on an Olympic-themed approach, held every four years. The four previous sold out successful tournaments were held in:
    • 2008, Québec City, QC = 167 teams
    • 2004, Ottawa, ON = 130 teams
    • 2000, Vancouver, BC = 127 teams
    • 1996, Toronto, ON = 96 teams
  • The CARHA Hockey World Cup has represented the largest adult recreational hockey tournament in the World
  • Depending on final event size, it is expected to generate up to $15 million in economic activity for Sault Ste. Marie
  • It features over 125 teams from approximately 10 countries worldwide
  • Since 1996, the number of European teams participating has increased to 55 teams in 2008
  • Representation has included: Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, USA
  • In Canada, there has been provincial representation from each of the ten provinces and both NT and YT
  • FREE Admission for spectators throughout the weeklong event
  • Over 250 volunteers will dedicate their time and efforts to the tournament
  • In 2008, $20,000 was donated to a local charity (L’Entrepôt du Hockey Foundation)
