We chatted with Grant Caswell, Owner / League Manager of the South Calgary Recreational Hockey League, about the new women’s division that the SCRHL is starting for the upcoming Spring & Summer 2023 Season (May 1st - August 18th).

Tell us about SCRHL

Since September 2006 (17 years), the South Calgary Recreational Hockey League (SCRHL) has provided weekly ice time schedules, qualified referees and timekeepers, a safe playing environment, and Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Association (CARHA) liability coverage to men and women aged 18+ who are interested in playing weekly morning AND weekly evening adult recreational hockey in S.E. and S.W. Calgary from Monday to Saturday.  The league is the only one of its kind in the city dedicated to serving the specific location of Southeast and Southwest Calgary and offering games at arenas close to home, as most leagues are spread out around the city and require lengthy transits by its players.

We’re excited by the news that SCRHL is adding a new women’s division for the upcoming spring and summer season! Please share more with us about what is available to players.

What kind of support are you seeing for more representation and opportunities for women in sport?

There aren’t dedicated women’s divisions in the south end of Calgary for only women’s teams, so this provides more choice to women interested in playing hockey in southeast or southwest Calgary who do not want to travel extensively over the summer to participate.

When is the deadline to register for your spring and summer season?

Friday, March 17th
