HIGHLIGHTS IN HOCKEY
HERstory being made

There's an impressive new lineup this season in hockey, and it's an inspiring one for the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and American Hockey League. Women are breaking barriers across these organizations.

Alex Clarke became the WHL and Canadian Hockey League's first female linesperson in the WHL pre-season game between the Regina Pats and Moose Jaw Warriors. Kirsten Welsh of the OHL was their first female linesperson, making her start in the pre-season when the Mississauga Steelheads took on the Guelph Storm.

The AHL's roster includes 10 female referees and linespeople for the first time. Catch Katie Guay mic'd up when she became the first female to officiate an AHL game when she dropped the puck for the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins and Lehigh Valley Phantoms game.

Premier Hockey Federation and ESPN + Strike Game-Changing Streaming Deal

ESPN+ has been announced as the exclusive U.S. broadcasting partner for the 2021-22 season, making the network home to all 60 regular-season games, the Isobel Cup playoffs and other special events.

Last month, the National Women's Hockey League rebranded as the Premier Hockey Foundation, a noteworthy topic in itself, as it became the first league in North America to remove 'women' from its title.

"This is historic for us," said PHF commissioner Tyler Tumminia. "ESPN is becoming the home of hockey, right? We all wanted to be a part of that."

International broadcasting details are mentioned as forthcoming, having us hopeful we'll be able to catch the games in Canada when the season starts November 6. Last year, the popular streaming site Twitch saw over two million viewers.
