Update from Sarah!

This past summer, Sarah Thompson joined CARHA Hockey as the Community Programs Intern. The Ottawa native is in her second year at Syracuse University and plays for the NCAA DI hockey team.

We are so excited for Sarah as she fulfills a dream of hers. ‘Sticks Together’ is a project she started to bring the sport of hockey to underprivileged communities around the world. Her first
mission trip is to South Africa in May of 2022. As part of the trip, Sarah is collecting street hockey equipment for a local school in Muizenburg. Play It Again Sports has teamed up to host equipment drives on the first three Sundays of December at their three Ottawa locations.

We'll be sharing an update from Sarah next week as she officially launches the project. Stay tuned here!

Historic weekend for home opener

The Premier Hockey Federation (previously the National Women's Hockey League) is back and Canada's only team returns after a stellar showing in their inaugural year. After a shortened first season that limited them to playing in the U.S., the Six swept the Connecticut Whale this past weekend with two games before a hometown crowd.

Even more reason for us to support the Six is to cheer on Lindsay Eastwood, a former Communications Intern at CARHA Hockey, who plays defence for the team. Lindsay scored the team's first franchise goal last year!

The Six, who are 3-0-0 will be back in Toronto on December 11th and 12th against the Metropolitan Riveters.

'Write your own story and achieve your own version of greatness'

Earlier this month, Kim St-Pierre cemented her place in the Hockey Hall of Fame when she was officially inducted as part of the class of 2020! Due to the pandemic, the ceremony was delayed a year but that didn't hinder the celebration.

The three-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time IIHF world champion is the eighth woman, and first female goaltender, to be inducted. In 2008, she tended goal during a Montreal Canadiens practice while Carey Price was out with the flu. At the time of her retirement in 2013, Kim was Canada’s all-time leading goaltender in games, wins, and shutouts.

A trailblazer and role model, Kim's inspiring Hall of Fame speech is worth the watch!
