HAPPY NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK!
Volunteers Bring Heart

Volunteers play a valuable role behind the scenes, dedicating countless hours to the game and their communities. They support leagues, teams, tournament play, outdoor rinks, and so much more to keep hockey going for us all. This year, the National Volunteer Week theme is Empathy In Action. The empathy, compassion and generosity of volunteers build better and stronger connections.

For all those who volunteer their time inside and outside our hockey community, CARHA Hockey and our partner company, iPlayHockey, say Thank You for making a difference!

POND INLET TEAM HITS THE ICE

Meet the Hamlet of Pond Inlet's Team! When the community responded with a strong interest in starting a women's hockey program, Theresa Dalueg got to work. March marked a major milestone (and highlight) when the team was able to practice together for the first time!

We caught up with Theresa to learn more about their journey and overcoming barriers to grow their program.

GROWING THE GAME
Empowering girls and women

We know the importance of supporting women and girls in sport and that there's still a lot of work to be done. One of our team focuses right now is being more active in how we can support and advocate.

This insightful article, Women's hockey under the radar: What's driving participation? looks specifically at findings from a survey conducted in Quebec and discusses motives and factors influencing girls' and women's participation in hockey.

Stay tuned because we're working on some things! Coming this year is a new campaign supporting women and girls in sport. This week, we have a Mom's Night Out skills session in Ottawa supported by Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) and their Mom's Got Game initiative.

SNAPSHOTS

Thanks to Hayley and Deb for sharing their photos! Keep us posted on what your team or league is up to with a photo or story!

The Honey Badgers (yellow) and Rapids (blue) of the Carleton Womens' Adult Hockey League (CWAHL) in Ottawa coordinated colours to show their support for Ukraine.

The TomCats Women's Hockey League in Paradise, Newfoundland, enjoyed time with family and friends during a fun skate over Easter weekend. A special appearance from Scratch made it extra memorable for the TomKittens.
