It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Charles “Chuck” Faultless on March 22, 2025, at the age of 75 after a courageous 10-month battle with bladder cancer.
Chuck was born August 25, 1949, in Etobicoke to Charles and Edna Faultless. He was a devoted husband to Mary Ann for 40 years and a loving father to Angela.
Today, we honour and celebrate the remarkable life and contributions of Chuck Faultless, a true stalwart in the hockey community. With his unwavering dedication, passion, and love for the game, Chuck left a permanent mark on the world of hockey, from youth to adult hockey, and on the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Born into a hockey family, his father Charles coached Chuck and his brother Gary when they played at Queensway Minor Hockey. Later on, Chuck decided that he preferred refereeing, and he continued refereeing for the rest of his life.
For decades, Chuck served the sport not only as a referee but also as a referee chief, board member, and ultimately, chairman of CARHA Hockey. His journey in sport was characterized by a relentless commitment to the principles of fair play, respect, and sportsmanship, values that he instilled in countless players and officials alike. His influence extended beyond the ice, as he devoted his time to mentoring young referees, ensuring they not only understood the rules of the game but also the spirit of hockey itself.
As a board member and chairman, Chuck’s leadership was characterized by fairness, integrity, and a profound understanding of the game. He navigated challenges with grace, always putting the welfare of players and the integrity of the sport at the forefront of his decisions. His legacy as a leader is one that will continue to resonate within CARHA Hockey and the larger hockey community for years to come.
As we reflect on Chuck’s life and his profound contributions to the sport we love, let us remember him not only as a dedicated referee and leader but also as a cherished friend and mentor. His wisdom, commitment, and genuine love for the game will live on in the hearts of those he inspired. As rewarding as all of the above was to him, what made him the happiest was spending time with his family and friends at the cottage. He was the barbecue master and had perfected the timing of grilling meat for how long it takes to drink a Stella.
Thank you, Chuck, for the incredible impact you’ve made. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
