The Dr. Scott Crescent has been made possible by the contributions of a very dedicated small group of volunteers. In fact, this winter outdoor recreation space was made possible by this small group of people with the support of the Wakaw & District Recreation Board and the Town of Wakaw. These two organizations continue to valuable partners in the annual creation of the rink.
The Dr. Scott Crescent ODR was witnessing a regular increase of usership in the years prior to the 2023/24 year. That year the weather did not cooperate, making it impossible to create the ice because of unseasonably warm weather.
Now the ODR is again open it is serving the community seven days a week. This is the first year users are able to take advantage of the beautiful warm-up chalet.
On February 23rd we will be hosting a community event at the Dr. Scott Crescent ODR to celebrate this fully completed chalet and recreation space that was made possible by a number of contributors in previous years. The celebration will involve hot dog and marshmallow roasting, tobogganing on the created snow hill in the same park, and other winter activities in addition to skating.
The Dr. Scott Crescent ODR is a wonderful recreation space for the community. It is the only outdoor space in the community designed for winter use. Now that winter is contributing to the ability for the ODR to exist we are back to developing the space as a gathering space for all. This includes our new Canadians using the space as they continue to take part in skating as a Canadian winter tradition and activity.
