Skate the Lake on Big Rideau Lake in Portland

Portland
ON

The rink has an inner (330 metres) and an outer (1 kilometre) loop and a hockey rink area. The Oval has been in operation since 2004. The community of Portland keeps the rinks in tip top shape all season long by volunteers. They have created a Skate the Lake Challenge as a friendly contest to encourage everyone to enjoy this epic skating experience. The organizers do an amazing job at updating the Skate the Lake Facebook page to keep everyone informed of the ice conditions. We drove from Kingston to Skate the Lake, the community involvement was amazing. The $1000.00 could be used to help with ice maintenance costs or building in a more accessible and easier way to enter the ice from the shore. I hope you will consider the Oval for this contest award.
Sincerely,
