Wakaw Jubilee Arena Unveils Dignified Dressing Room to Enhance Inclusivity for All Players

With support from CARHA Hockey and community partners, the newly completed dressing space offers a safe and welcoming environment for minority-gender athletes and officials.

In an exciting update for the 2024-25 season, the Wakaw Jubilee Arena in Wakaw, SK has proudly opened its Dignified Dressing Room, marking a significant step towards inclusivity in local hockey. With support from CARHA Hockey, CN Stronger Communities Fund, Wakaw Oldtimers, and Lake Country Co-op, the Town of Wakaw transformed a former storage space into a fully equipped dressing room, creating a welcoming area for three to five individuals. Designed with respect and dignity in mind, the new Dressing Room #9 provides a dedicated space for female and male athletes who may represent the minority gender on their teams.

“Busy tournament days and back-to-back games often fill all six main dressing rooms”, shared Dwane Burke, Wakaw’s Recreation and Community Development Manager. “This new space gives our athletes and officials a safe place to prepare, avoiding the storage rooms they used to rely on. It’s about making everyone feel part of the game.”

Appreciation for the support of CARHA Hockey and community contributors is prominently displayed within the arena, celebrating the collaborative effort that has enhanced the hockey experience for all. This project aligns with Wakaw’s commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive recreational environment for residents and visitors alike.
